Community Service/Connecting Passion with Purpose
LEADING THROUGH COMMUNITY SERVICE (ONLINE)

This fully online course allows students to get involved in their school and community while exploring their interests and helping others. Students will complete 6-8 hours of volunteer work each marking period. This work must be authorized by the advisor and take place in a nonprofit community organization, the school community or other pre-approved settings. Students will reflect on these experiences and complete online assignments through Canvas. Students will also contribute to the class website and meet with the program coordinator each marking period. *This course was previously Student World Action Class (SWAC).

COMMUNITY SERVICE LEARNING (ONLINE)

In this fully online, students will engage in a deeper understanding of how to work with community partners and collaborate with outside organizations and individuals, while provide benefit to our community. Service learning will allow students to engage in a focused exploration of how their interests and abilities can contribute to the local, state-wide, and national good. Students will identify a community need and create a plan to address that need. Course assignments and projects will be completed online through Canvas. Students will also be expected to meet regularly with the coordinator to report on their progress.

MODERN INNOVATION

Modern Innovation is a project-based course enabling students to create a solution to a problem that currently exists or improve upon a current solution. Throughout the course, students would follow a Shark-Tank-esque format, learning how to identify problems, propose solutions, understand the financial and manufacturing sides of modern innovation, and pitch proposals.

CONNECTING PASSION WITH PURPOSE (ONLINE)

What if you had time in your school day to direct your own learning? This asynchronous online course will allow students to connect learning to something that they would like to change, create, design, or impact. The Genius Hour model will be employed as students work through the steps of passion, plan, pitch, product, and presentation. Students will have the opportunity to go deeper, think bigger, and consider how to create long-lasting change. At the end of this course students will have a plan or product that can be shared with colleges and businesses as evidence of learning, creating, and implementing something that was self-directed.
Course assignments and projects will be completed online through Canvas. Students will be expected to schedule progress meetings with the instructor. |
